Immerse yourself in the course of evolution

It is one surprise after another in the the Gallery of Evolution's virtual reality room at the National History Museum. Wearing a headset which plunges you into a digital world, you explore an evolution sphere containing several hundreds of specimens all linked to each other, from fungi to the T-Rex and homo sapiens. This is how you find out that human beings and salmon have more in common than this salmon does with a shark. Using controllers, you navigate the tree of evolution which appears before your eyes and discover the origins of life with Luca, the common ancestor of all living beings. Extinct species have never looked so alive.

An immersion in 19th century art

At the musée d'Orsay, technology serves art. To mark the restoration of The Painter's Studio, the masterpiece of the realist painter Gustave Courbet, you are invited to enjoy an amazing experience. Using one of the tablets placed before his work, you enter the painter's studio, and you are off on a poetic thirty-minute trip during which characters reveal their secrets to you. The process of creating the painting and the issues involved in its restoration are explained to you in a fun and surprising manner.

Explore French history as if you were there

Augmented reality has the advantage of making history alive and exciting for children, so why not take the family to the Château of Vincennes, where a unique application on a tablet recreates King Charles V's study in 3-D? As you cross the keep, you can see this room as it was decorated in the 14th century. The simulation follows your viewing angles and moves with you. From riddles to observation games, this amusing route reveals to you the mysteries of this former residence of the French monarchs and takes you right back to the Middle Ages. Fun for all the family.

Relive the highlights of Paris's past

Head towards the banks of the Seine. At the Conciergerie, the impressive Gothic palace used as a prison during the French Revolution, a tablet called the Histopad gives you the illusion of time travel. Enjoy a 360-degree sight and sound experience as you explore the 14th century kitchens or Marie-Antoinette's cell. Using this impressive augmented reality visiting device, you then enter a 3-D Revolutionary Tribunal, followed by a procession of names, trials and stories of former prisoners, both famous and anonymous. Impressed by your immersive discovery, you can then admire the tapestry of the nine Worthies which covered the entire banqueting hall. The history of Paris has never been so gripping.
